About Tendai Mtawarira
Tendai was born in Zimbabwe on the 1st of August 1985 and began his professional career in South Africa in the year 2006. It was then that he represented the Sharks in the Currie Cup. One year later he was signed to represent the Sharks in Super Rugby. Between the years 2007 and 2019 he was the backbone of the Sharks side in Super Rugby and during this time the team managed to finish as the competition’s runners-up twice (2007 and 2012) and won the South African conference once in 2014.
After the Rugby World Cup win, Tendai Mtawarira spent a season playing in America before retiring from the game. Since then he has started his own foundation, run his own security company and most recently launched a wine collection!

There are many who believe Tendai Mtawarira is the greatest South African Rugby Player of all time, not only because of his skills, but because people just love him!
Tendai Mtawarira is often referred to as The Beast, and if you have watched any videos of him on the field is easy to understand why. Tendai capped more than 100 times by the Springboks at test level and he also played more than 150 games for the Sharks in Super Rugby. Tendai was inducted into the RugbyPass Hall of Fame in 2021. He is of course best known for his appearances for the Springbok and his international career leapfrogged in 2019 when he played an integral role in the final of the Rugby World Cup, which of course South Africa won!
